John A. Sellers graduated from Texas Tech University, with a degree in advertising/public
relations and received his teaching certificate in history from Texas A & M, Commerce; He has been doing genealogical and historical research since 1985. He has visited courthouses in
several southern states and has conducted extensive research in Texas and Louisiana.
He is an active member of the Hopkins County Genealogical Society served as President, 1997-
1998, 2017-. He has been the featured speaker for more than 70 all day seminars located in
various states. He has been an instructor for the TIGR, 2017-2023. He has completed several
courses at IGHR including Genealogy as a Profession and Advanced Methodology. John was a
lecturer at the IGHR, Samford University, 2009, 2010, 2014 and University of Georgia, 2018, 2021, 2024, and 2026.
He is semi-retired and the Travel Director for CNB Destinations with a local bank and has
served as Mayor of Sulphur Springs and presently on the City Council.
